savage 223 with bull barrel and 9 twist....Which bullet would you all use for
250 yards F class...Been trying the SMK 69 gr..

What about a lighter boolet ? Any ideas...?

We have shot the 69 SMK a lot at 300 yards with good results in a 223. I shot the 75 AMax in 22-250 AI and it is much more wind resistance at the speeds I drive it. Nothing wrong with the 69 SMK. Very good match for a 223.

thanks.Just thinking maybe the lighter will be cheaper to try...guess I will stay with the 69 gr

If you gun will shoot the 75 AMax, it technically has a ballistic advantage even with the 223. It comes down to which bullet your barrel likes to eat. My 1:8 twist 223 will stable the 80 gr Berger VLDs and that is what I shoot in that barrel. These don't fly in my 1:9 twist 223. You could try other bullets in the 70-75 gr range. However, the 69 SMK is a safe bet in my opinion. Plus it is available in bulk (500 count boxes).

In terms of lighter and cheaper - the cost of 55s versus the 69s in minimal difference. You want every advantage you can get. My son shoots great groups at 100 yards with the 52 gr Berger FB with 223 sporter (1:9). However at 300 yards, the 69 SMK is a clear winner.

Have you looked at the 53 grain vmax? It has a b.c. almost equal to the 69 grain match king but is able to be driven much faster. The 53 shoots really well out of my 9 twist AR.

Stomp----thought about trying them sometime....I tried the 73 grains with not much success...Of course it could have been me...I basicly use on H 4895 powder...It works good so far..

At 250yds I'm not terribly worried about having a high BC bullet. Sure, if you can get a high BC bullet that shoots well, then all the better, but at 250yds it's really not necessary. Just find a bullet in the 52gr+ range that shoots well in your rifle and be happy (unless you plan to shoot greater distances).

That being said, I like the 69gr SMK as a good all-around match bullet for 1-9" twist 223s.

back when i had a factory 1-9t barrel i would shoot either the 69 gr smk or the 75gr amax over varget my son would take the 75's out to 700 yrds with out a problem just have to read the wind .

I've had good luck with 69gr Nosler BTHP's. A little cheaper and just as good in my rig.
