I was at a store today and there were 2 guns next to each other a stainless 114 and a blued 110. Both guns were brand new and the stainless bolt just seemed so much smoother to me.

Often it is the other way around. Seems they bead blast some of the stainless stuff leaving a rougher finish than on blued parts. That was certainly the case for my 20ga slug gun which was stainless and I had to re-polish the bolt to make it smooth after the bead blasting they did....

Was the bolt lift smoother or the way it slid in the raceway?

Everything about it was just smoother

I have noticed that Savage must spend a little more time matching components on certain rifles than on others.. The older Flat back actions always seemed smoother, I don't think it was the due to being broke in either.

A bead blasted surface shouldn't be used on Savages. That's not really a finished surface.
