Savage 114 magazine failure

I have a Savage 114 in 7mm Rem Mag. The metal retainer clip at the rear of the detachable magazine has broken off, for the second time. I am wondering if this is a common problem. Has anyone else encountered this?

I always wondered why Savage went to floorplates. You needn't even chamber each round if you go to unload after a hunt. Just let the bolt grab the case and back up. I never loaded more than two rounds anyhow.
