I've been playing with some Nosler 175 grain Custom Competition match hpbt's and Winchester 760 powder with good results in my .308 Hog Hunter. Last summer I picked up a pound and a half of Royal Scot shotgun powder that works wonderfully in my .45 Long Colt.

I also got a pound of IMR4350 in the deal, and I'm going to load some Sierra 220 grain Matchkings on top of that. The Hog Hunter has a 20" barrel, with a 10" twist. I'm interested to see how these 220's will behave.

Is anyone else shooting these from a .308?

I don't like to go heavier than 165 gr in the 308.220's take up too much powder space.

I like 175 SMKs out to 1000yds. They usually run 2600-2700fps, 220's would probably be pretty slow. They'd probably still be affective within short hunting distances though.

Personally I would save anything heavier than 180gr for a 300WM or equivalent.

Wind won't mess with them. Drop will be similar to a hand grenade.

yeah no doubt there. I have thought about trying the heavy bullets in some subsonic loads but like others the 175grain SMK is awesome.

I would have the heavy bullets being pushed by a winmag or similar.
