I am new to getting really involved with my firearms and I just purchased a 110E .308 Win from an individual and he knew nothing about the gun (apparently it was left to him when his dad passed). I have been reading about the 110 and am curious as to the differences between the 110E Series J and K and what does the Series designate. My serial number is E539747.

I am no expert, but what I have been told that the letter starting the serial number pertains to the year of manufacture. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in.

The "E" refers to the economy model I believe that was specifically built for discount stores. This actually saved the company from going out of business at one time. I had one in the .223. It was a no frills model. Short action of 308 started production in 1959. Is it actually stamped 110E on the barrel or are you saying it is a "E" because the serial # starts with a E? By the serial # it was made after 1995.

The E prefix tells me it was made from 1982-89. If it's stamped series"J" or "K", it tells me that it is an intermediate action with a 4.522 action screw spacing.
