Even the local sportsman matches here have a top ten of nothing more than .2's.

What distance?

1/2 Moa will put you in the X-ring every time.

1/2 MOA is capable of being in the X ring every time!

OK, I think I understand. To some score shooting at 200,300, and 500 is not really benchrest.
At 100yd group shooting, yes, I will get my clock cleaned.

All I was getting at with the this post is I bought a rifle and and I'm getting accuracy that I would of never thought ( from a factory rifle ) capable unless spending a ton of money on a custom gun. I mean let's face it not everyone out there has the money to go drop 5 grand on a McMillan or something of that quality. But for the money I have invested I'm happy with it.

right on. I run my Axis against the remi's, McMillan's, and GAP's at my range and I'm not ashamed about it!

I have a remmington 700 sps tactical AAC-sd, and it's a pretty good shooter considering the rubber stock and the short barrel. But the savage is by far more accurate

My neighbor is an older guy who has been shooting all his life. He has a McMillan, H.S. Precision custom gun and a few other high dollars rifles. He is the kind of guy who won't even acknowledge my kimber custom because it's no a Wilson combat like his. He can't believe the accuracy I'm getting out of my savage. Enough that he went out and bought one.

pbracken556,

Looks like you have a shooter. Somehow, and for some reason, a few have turned it into a benchrest conversation. Which has very little to do, if anything, with your post.

I assume you have it in .223? Going by your name.

Good luck on your progression beyond 800yds.

No it's chambered in .308 this is just an older name. I do a lot of shooting with the AR platform

For 1000 bucks that value is there in my eyes

I've been extremely pleased with the "out of the box" accuracy of all three of my Savages. I'm NOT a bench rest competitor and do not wish to be. I'm in between wanting superior target accuracy (my definition of same: SUB moa and a desired less than half moa) and real world (my definition; hunting varmints, hogs, predators) accuracy under field conditions.

My one buddy shoots competition; has a Surgeon based rifle, custom barrel, Nightforce and Schbank and Spender ...er...Schmidt and Bender scopes. No doubt his rig is solid, accurate and reliable. BUT he commented to me when I first got my 110 .223 and we were shooting at 100 and 200 yards "Wow, you spend 500$ for a used factory gun and a lower end scope and do almost as well as I do with mine at these distances".

I don't begrudge anyone who has the ways and means to get a solid custom rifle. But for my dollar, at my level, I absolutely love my Savages.

That's all I was saying. If a Guy doesn't have the money, or doesn't want to spend 3,4,or $5,000 yet has an interest in benchrest competition (Organized, off a bench with separate front and rear rest, at known distances) he can be competitive and enjoy the challenge with the consistent shooting Savage he already owns. Weather it meets someone else's definition or not. But it does take something more to shoot one hole groups all day (Why you would spend thousands). Sorry to interfere with your thread, I leave it there.

Yeah that's what I was getting at. I should have titled it " if you can't spend thousands...."

That is the beauty of Savage and their niche in the marketplace. Their floating bolt and barrel nut design let the common Joe upgrade his rifle without a gunsmith. That and their great out of the box accuracy.

I built a long range varmint rifle using a stainless action chambered in 22-250. Added a McGowen 1:8 twist barrel, NSS nut and lug and dropped it into an XLR chassis. Worked up a killer load with the 80g Amax. While off last week for hunting I went to Marksman Training Center in Central Michigan which has an UKD steel range. I was getting consistent hits on a 3" steel target at 1050 yards (yes with a 22-250). That is .3 MOA at over 1/2 mile. 100 yard groups are just silly with this rifle. Acually quite boring. That same afternoon I took a headshot on a doe at 245 yards and dropped her in her tracks. With the chassis, barrel and a Viper PST 6-25 FFP scope I have maybe $2600 into the rifle. I would put it up with any custom out there head to head with confidence and it's never been touched by a smith. Savage ROCKS!

Hope nobody walks by the window....lol

As for your topic, it is unfortunate that some had to ruin the thread, but it sound like its overwith now. Im sure the title confuse them as to what you meant, but still doesnt make it ok.

Glad to see you have a great shooter.
