I am thinking about building a 280ai but don't know exactly what would be a donor action to use and have a good selection of stocks available. A guy I know has a 110 non-accu trigger 270 he wants to sell for $250. I can't get over to look at it and he doesn't know anything about the action. All I have is the serial number, F909487. Is there any way to find out what kind of action this is from the serial number and if it would be a good donor for this build?
Thanks

Chances are, if he's only selling it for $250, he's not aware of or tooled up for barrel changing. Most likely the model number of the action is right there stamped on the barrel, if it's the original factory barrel. You'd have to look to be sure whether it's center feed or stagger feed.

Why expand the prior to link. His Serial number is after F489821.
Wouldn't you want to expand the After F498821 link?
The Serial number he quoted was built some time after Nov 1st 1995.
about 410666 rifles later.
I'd almost say some where in the 2000-2002 range.
It's not hard to tell which magazine it has. The center feed stayed in the stock when you remove the action from the stock. The staggered feed stays on the action.
Checking the FAQ section the center feed started in 2005. That rifle was built before that.
Being chambered for 270 it should be an easy conversion.
It has the right length for the 280AI. It may need some work on the magazine lips to feed properly.

Thanks for the info. The rifle is a blued, staggard feed 110 and I picked it up for $225.

I must have clicked on the wrong bar in haste. Thanks for the correction 44

correction: I pasted his serial number in the parts finder and it told me that they no longer serviced that serial number. So I went to the other links based on that data without investigating further. Anyway I was only trying to help. I think I will leave that to the smarter guys from now on.
