ER Shaw barrels. Opinion ?

I'm looking at ER Shaw barrels but don't know anything about them. Any experience out there?

I bought one for my 260 rem. It is a winner. I am going to replace it with another ER Shaw this winter when I rebarrel. Gunshack has a screaming deal on them.

I'm looking at these too. I would like to go with McGowen, but for $100 less it's hard to turn it down. I only wish that gunshack had .308 in stock. Maybe it's a sign that I DO need to build a .260 instead :(

E.R.Shaw has been around for a long time. Got my first replacement barrel from them maybe 20 years ago. Turned out to be one of my best!

I had a Shaw in 7mm Rem Mag and it would put 3 shots in a perfect cloverleaf every time. I had a 458WM of theirs that seemed ok and a 250 Savage that had lots of potential giving my 3/4 MOA average. They cleaned easy enough. As far as the bore they seem to be on par or a small step above factory Savage barrels, not mirror smooth but good.

I have a 300 win mag in ER Shaw, no problem with it.

Returned a 260 because of a bad chamber. The replacement was great 3/4MOA without load workup. Have a 300 win mag shoots fine. Have a 7mm08 that is the most accurate thing I own.

I have seen what most people don't, the bad side of ER Shaw. I have fixed over a dozen of their barrels. Some of them were beyond fixing. Major gulling in the chambers, chambers cut too long (1/8" plus) causing case heads to blow off, etc. A couple of my customers tried to get them to replace the barrels and they sent the barrels back to the customers and said they were in their "spec". In my opinion you can do way better.

I just finished a build with a Shaw barrel in 240 Weatherby Mag from the long awaited 6mm group buy last year. I could not have been more impressed with the results of this trip to the range. I had some factory ammo from the last 240 I owned many years ago and was going to use it for break in. The first three rounds through the barrel were touching at 100 yards. I do not believe that every barrel from Shaw is going to be a winner and I firmly believe Sinman when he says he has seen some awful results from them. I however, am more than pleased with the barrel I received from them.

I have one in .243 and one in 6.5 Creedmoor. They both clean easily and both shoot very, very well! The .243 had some rough spots when I first got it while pushing a patch through it, and took about 100 rounds or so to smooth out, but now a patch goes down it like greased owl poop. The Creedmoor was in better shape when it arrived. Both had really nice crowns, but I like short barrels and had my smith chop them off to 20" and put a new crown on them.
