Im down to my last 4lbs of Varget and from the looks of it?.....theres just none to be found locally. Ive decided to save those last 4lbs for use on extremely accurate and consistant loads Ive develope,d for 68gr/69gr/75gr/80gr for my .224 gas target rigs...that will keep them feed for along time.

Ive been using RL-15 on my mil spec 11:25 twist 10 FCP-HS and 150,s and couldnt be happier....but as the story goes...I cant find RL-15 either.

Ive recently added another 10 FCP-K Savage to my addiction and have finally decided to give IMR 4064 a try for my load development using heavier 168/175. seeing as how I was able to locate an 8lb-er for 2 bills...I couldnt say no
All you IMR 4064 users................................what say you?

I think you will be pleased. My rifles prefer 4064 over Varget. 43 grains under a 168 berger works for me.

I have picked up some 4064 for the same reasons. I just have not been able to make a range trip lately to test what I have loaded up.

I started loading for my 308 this year, I had some Varget and 4064. I decided to start with the 4064 because I had more. So far my best load has been 42.5 grains with 68gr SMKs. I'm getting such good accuracy, I can't imagine the Varget could do any better.

The Varget probably can't do any better. But that's the thing about shooting (perhaps) the most "inherently accurate" chambering on the planet. When I was shooting my 308 Win, it didn't seem to matter much what I fed it, it shot well. But that's the reason my 308 barrel is sitting in a tube in the corner of a closet. It is "booorrring". That Stevens 200 could have easily been the only rifle I ever needed. But, we need the challenge, don't we? ;-)

challenge/addiction indeed.........
It easy to get carried away.
Ive got some loads ready and ready to start my ladder testing.
Thanksgiving morning?.....Im headed to the desert.... Im not calling my shooting buds either. I need to be alone while testing

So what did your 600-1000 groups look like? The wind, BC and ES makes things a little less booooring with the 308 at distance. X-ring is 3" @ 600, land a consecutive string of 10 in that and your good.

I've never really had an opportunity at anything past 300yards ..... ;-(

Ive heard the same things from other as well. Soon as I find out how the powder does for me which I believe will fit the bill. Im thinking of just going down to the local range and picking up another 8lb-er. im tired of web shopping/searching for Varget. I really like the powder but its just so dam hard to get a hold of.

that may be why its so boring to you that of which I can agree with you. Sending them to 300 realistically is usually a piece of cake for "almost" any 308.
Think Ive said this before but I know im darn lucky to have the desert mountain valleys we have here to send them from 100 out to a mile and its only a 30 minute drive.

Many reloader's like 4064 in the 308, and prefer it to Varget.

I would like to try my hand at some really long range stuff, but allas, I am an "Eastern" hunter, shooter, so the opportunities are just not there for me ;-(

Thanks......Jim

I've always used IMR-3031 for my 308 hunting loads, until I couldn't find it when I needed it. My next choice? IMR-4064.
as an added bonus, my rifle shoots tighter groups with the 4064.

I'm just getting into reloading so bear with me. I have a Savage 11 VT in .308, 1:10 twist (Yes a Dick's store purchase-no politics please). I just purchased the IMR-4064 powder (this threads suggestion) and will be using Hornady 178 grain AMax bullets. I have plenty of once fired Hornady AMax brass. I'm stuck on purchasing the best primers that I can get right now. Everybody seems to be out of the ones that I wanted- CCI BR2 & Federal. I am going to shoot 1,000 yards on a trip in a couple of months & I want to be ready. Any suggestions on what to get (that's actually gettable)?
