6x47 L

Hey guys, a couple of questions about the 6x47L for you all, from what I have read, the caliber requires brass to be formed off of 6.5x47 brass, is this a hard thing to do? I have never formed brass so I have nothing to base and experience on, second, will this cartridge feed reliably?

Looking to push 70 grain Blitzkings to the 3700ish mark, this caliber seems capable of doing that. Any thoughts?

I have never owned one but a friend of mine shoots one in Fclass. All you have to do is run the 6.5x47 brass through the 6x47 die and load and shoot. He is getting very good accuracy and 3100fps with 115 Dtac bullets.

Brass is easy........just FL size it using a 6x47L die. Forster is what I use to form & FL size with, then use Wilson dies from there. Feeds perfectly out of my rifle. Can't help with the 70's....but certainly looks doable.

Yeah, most guys want to run the heavy bullets, I want something that shoots flat to 300 or so and will cut smaller critters in half, the 70 should do well for that at that velocity.

Forming brass is dead simple. 3700 should be obtainable.. I'm aproaching 3200 with 105gr bullets. As far as feeding, I'm not sure as I don't have a magwell.

I have 2 questions.

I only have a Redding S type Full Length bushing die, can this be used to form the brass, or will it leave a bump at the base of the neck?

Do you use a case or a GO gauge to set the headspace on your Savage rifle?

I think you'll be ok using the FL die. I have both and don't end up with a bulge or donuts. It was a concern at first but I quickly got over that. You may notice a bump after sizing, I always did, however as soon as the case is fired it's uniform. I just don't think the neck sizer reached all the way down to the shoulder.


I have go and no-go gauges for the headspace.

BTT, just curious to get an answer on this one!

He's probably using the Forster FL to do the inital neck sizing due to extra force needed, much easier with conventional dies than hand dies.
After they're necked down (Wilson)hand dies will work fine to work the necks.
