I've always heard good things about shotguns chambered in 16 gauge; never had one, until today. Here's my humpbacked semi-auto; a Savage. Not sure of when it was made sure but it sure is in excellent condition with a 28" barrel.

What model is that? 745? 750?

Whatever it is it's most likely one of the cleanest Savage semi I've ever laid eyes on, real nice grab.

So can anyone help me out with a date/decade and model number?

thanks

If my references are correct it's a Model 720 and would have been made between 1930 and 1949. The Utica, NY stamping puts narrows it down to 1930-1946 as 1946 is the year Savage moved from Utica to Chicopee Falls, MA. The early ones had "John M. Browning Patent 1900" stamped on the lower edge of the left side of the receiver like shown below.

The later Model 745 and 750 weren't offered in 16-gauge.
