Question on building a 223 on a long action using a short action bolt head

I think I've figured this out but just to make sure. I have a 22-250 in a long action. To convert to a 223 I'll need to get a short action bolt head and an extended firing pin nut. My question arises from the fact that since the short action bolt head is 7/16" thick and the long action is 1/2" thick how do you take up the 1/16" space with the short action head? I suppose this is accomplished by setting the 223 barrel back with a go gauge so the bullet will chamber to the proper depth. Before I try this just wanting to make sure the bolt will close and function properly. Am I missing something here?

You can also get a long action 223 bolt head. You can sometimes find a factory one, or you can buy a new one from PTG.

I checked with PTG website and they only offer one in a short action. SSS doesn't offer one either. SSS offers the extended firing pin nut and a short action bolt head. From what I can find out you either get lucky and find a long action head or go with the extended firing pin nut and set the barrel back to fit. Anybody know of someone for sure that sells the long action bolt head for a 223?

I wouldn't loose too much sleep about setting back the barrel and FP and all that. I ran a 308 short action bolt head in a 110 and it wasn't that bad.

I found you can use a S/A if your handy enough to make a adapter from a 1/4 28 long nut from your local hardware store
