View Full Version : RCBS swager woes

I got a new RCBS bench mounted primer pocket swager. It removes the crimp quite well, but I have difficulty retracting the handle back to it's original position, thus pulling the swager back out of the case. It's like the swager head gets stuck in the case, and I have to snap the handle back to pop the head free of the case. I started with the head adjusted to the .125" setting as reccommended in the manual, then had to close that up just a tad to get all the crimp out of my LC 308 brass.
Anyone experience the same issue, or am I'm doing something wrong?

I have that same swager. Yup, you have to sort of pop it back up.
As far as I know what you are experiencing is normal, or if not, then we are both doing something wrong.

I have one of these as well and it does the same thing. I have wondered if adding a little lube to the swager might make it better, but have not had to use the swager since I had that thought.

OK, then I'm not going nuts.
I too considered the use of some lube, but decided against it as I don't want that stuff in my primer pocket.
Thanks guys.

i never thought about lube. If you used a water based (wire pulling lube is a great water-based sizing lube) or non-petroleum based wax lube (an old beeswax candle?) it should not affect the primers.

I suppose you could always tumble them for a short time to get the lube out.
