Hey guys I was wondering if there is anything to look for on my Dad's 1960 model 99f in .308.I am taking it deer hunting in about 10 days and was wondering how to know if it is safe to fire? The rifle is in beautiful shape no rust or pitting and barrel looks pretty clean.I know he never shot it much at all and never did any gunsmithing on it.He is passed away though but mom said she never saw him do anything to it but clean it.I cycled rounds threw it and shells ejected nice, safety works fine, even the round counter works great. Is there anything else I should check before I go and sight it in?Also the rifle has not been shot in 25 years if that makes any difference.Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Naw, your most likely good to go.

You could take the buttstock off and have a look at the internals and give them a little cleaning if you want, might be a couple sticky small parts in there. If you take the butt off you can access all the internals without having to remove any of them.
