Elevation adjustment on Nikon BDC

Do I need a 20 MOA base and will it mess up my Nikon BDC? I checked my scope and I only have one rotation of adjustment for the elevation. At 1/8th" clicks @ 100 yards that wouldn't get me very far out there I wouldn't imagine. It currently is zeroed at 200 yards. The scope is a Nikon Buckmaster 6x18x40 BDC. Right now I have a Ken Farrel one piece base. I wanted a 20 MOA but Sinclair's didn't have it in stock so I got the 0 MOA.

And also, if it's 1/8th inch at 100 yards then its 1/4" at 200. I got that part down but what does it move at 300, 400, 500 and 600? It's a little confusing and I'm new to long range shooting.

I've never used the elevation knob to get on a target at long range, I've allways just used holdover.

Correct. Then it's 1/2" at 400 yards and 1' at 800 yards.

Dennis you have lots of other variables to consider here, trajectory,velocity, bullet weight and the caliber. Also I think the bdc reticle works on a set power not all the way through the range(6-18), you need to know all of these before you start trying to shoot at longer ranges.
Other than that Uncle Jack is 100% correct.

As Froggy says. Most Mildot or BDC scopes have a specific power where the the calibrations are in sync. Most are maked with an arrow or X on the power adjustment ring.

First you need to decide which you wanna use, the bdc reticle or dialing in with the turrets. If you wanna find your zeros with the bdc drops then you probably wont be turning the dials as much, but if not you will definately need more elevation.

A cheap fix is to buy a set of Burris Signature Zee rings and a set of offset inserts. Then you can end up with almost 20moa out of your 0moa base ;)

well i got it figured out. i can get out to 600 yards with a bullet loaded to 3900 fps. and still be able to use my bdc. it took a lil research and alot of confusion but problem solved.

another nice thing about the bdc is ...i have a 3x9 bdc on my ar in .223 and found that i can zero using 55gr.heads and when i swap to 62gr. i use the next dot/circle for that bullets zero ...no knob turning needed
