I will be using my savage 7.62x39 scout mainly to hunt, but will use my savage 10TR sometimes. The scout weighs in around 7 to 7.5 lbs, the 10TR is more like 9-10lbs.

So curious as to what bullet you have used successfully over and over? Is this bullet also accurate on paper? Starting to research it now, like to find one thats good at both the above.

We have used the Sierra 165 HPBT GameKing in 30 cal. for a lot of years. It always seems to do a good job, you do have to pick your shot to not loose so much meat.

I like the Nosler Partition and have had great luck with it. I am giving the Hornady Interlock and SST a try this season though.

I like the Sierra's also, the prohunter has worked for me as has the SGK. The Nosler BT's are designed for the speed of the 308.

In the 308 I have been running some Hornady 150gr SST's over Varget for the last 7 years or so. I chose them because they are basically the hunting version of the 155 A-Max that I use for target work. Same powder charge, Same OAL and they shoot to same POA but group size is about 1/4" larger at 100yds but the deer don't seem to notice. I have shot around 20 deer at ranges from 75yds to 450yds with them and always DRT.

A side note: I have accidentally grabbed my 155 A-Max loads by mistake when leaving for the field and been forced to use them. The A-Max works pretty good, but if you try punching through larger bones they will disrupt upon striking said bone and really do some damage possibly ruining meat. There it is FWIW.

The 168 Berger is my first choice followed closely by the 165 game king.

Ditto We have been taking deer for 40 years in our 30 caliber with these bullets and they have never failed to impress me on accuracy or
stopping abilities.

alot of people seem to like the sierra 165 hpbt gameking, I will give it a shot. My most accurate bullet for my 7.62x39 scout is a sierra 125gr sp/hp. Price isnt to bad on them compared to noslers.

If I don't have any of the calibers and weights in my stash of the old Nosler Solid Base bullets my first alternate choice are Sierra's. My second and third choices are Sierra's and Sierra's in that order.:p

However, after 30+ years saying I would never use them for goats (long story) this season I do have the 260 tuned with 120 NBTs.

I stick with what I know works and that has been Nosler Partitions for a long time.

I would say something in the 125 grain area for the scout and either a Sierra GK 150-165 grain or Hornady Interlock BT 150-165.

I like Nosler Accubonds. I'm not sure If a 7,62x39 would push em fast enough or not but the .308 sure will. Very good on game performance and accuracy.

Can't go wrong with the Nosler Partition. I like the Hornady SST as well.

Seriously guys, I mean seriously, a partition for a white tail? remmy core-lokt takes more deer than I dare to admit.
Have you seen the size some of the whitetails out there? I have had pet goats which were larger than some ....

Yes Partition for a whitetail. My oldest daughter dropped a whitetail with a .223 using Nosler Partition 60gr. It was DRT.

I do like core-lokt. Used them a bunch in my 7mm RM before I started reloading. Why not use a Nosler Partition, when I have a bunch I bought for $15 for 50 using seconds? It's going to get the job done, plain and simple.

My 7.62x39 savage scout is spot on with sierra 125gr pro hunter hp/fn. No chance to chrono it yet.

Picked up a box of sierra 165gr hpbt gk. Loaded some up in rdy to use lake city, well, it wasnt ready. My test shell loaded, and the rest didnt. Had to resize multiple times to get them to chamber. So gotta do em over. Picked up some winchester brass also, like to have to guns ready in case something happens.

The 3 bucks seen around and on my property (12 pt, 8pt, and a 4pt) are not overly large, 150ish im told. I hope to find out. Either round should take one down, though the 308 should be DRT. Just hopefully, all those close to my land after the big one leave the little one alone.
