I just got home from a three hour round trip to Academy to pick up a Model 200 in .223. If I decide to get into barrel swaps down the road what calibers can I switch to with just Barrel changes. As far as stocks go. Am I correct in the assumption stocks for the 10/110 series Savages will work? Basically I want to hear anything anybody can offer. Tips, tricks, Good factory load for coyotes, Modifictions you've done, problem areas to look out for,parts interchangeability...etc.. Maybe we can get enough info to make this a sticky so all us "Newbs" with $250.00 guns will leave yall alone. Thanks in advance for any replies.

With a barrel change only, given your current bolthead, your more common choices would be:

for stocks you would need to make sure of a couple things. alot of aftermarket stocks tend to have a heavy varmint contour barrel channel, which coupled with a standard sporter weight barrel looks goofy but doen't really pose any accuracy problems. model 10 is short action and model 110 is long action. you have a long action rifle so any stock claiming to work with model 110 actions will work.

not all SA stocks will work on yours though. Savage has 2 different action screw spacings. There is the older model staggerfeed which has a spacing of 4.275". And then there's the newer version centerfeed model, which has a spacing of 4.400".

Pretty sure yours is gonna be the centerfeed model. When you order your stock just make sure you have the correct bolt spacing for yours.

If yours is new any of the newer stocks for the model 10 should work- short action. If it is older (4.275) Boyds makes the stock for it.If it has a dbm you will need inletting work done to the stock.
As far as calibers if you are willing to change the bolt($105) from midway or the bolt head your barrel options are almost limitless aside from magnum calibers.

Last I checked the .223 was a short action in Stevens 200 :)
