The shortest I'm able to get the protrusion is .11 with .2 of travel. I'll post pics tomorrow if it doesn't work.

Something is bad wrong if .110" is the least you can get. Usually there is enough adjustment it can be set to zero. It may the reason the rifle was on the used rack! One thing you might check is the bolthead shaft length. Maybe some yahoo installed a SA bolthead(?).

Long time, my bad. Long story short, no bang. I did some searching and Gander only reset the pin and spring lengths. I'm off to get a new spring, if that doesn't work I might take you up on your offer, sortafast.

Are you sure there is not trigger interference with the stock. I have heard that there are times it causes some FTF issues. Can't recall exactly what they were right now.

New guy here just getting caught up on my reading....

I went through the same thing as the OP on my 116 30-06. 2 gunsmiths and $150.00 later, (and the problem still not resolved) I decided to see what I could do. I found a loose stock screw and that the trigger had been adjusted to take out all the creep. I put a little creep back in the trigger and all is well.

Hope this helps, but YMMV

Maybe I'm missing something. Earlier you said " The shortest(protrusion) I'm able to get is .11"(110"?).

If that's the case what did Gander set it to?

I really doubt the spring is bad. I never found any factory springs that were even less than the maximum specs., let alone the minimum.
Without a quick peek at it, I would guess insufficient firing pin fall, caused be a stack up of tolerance in the trigger/ sear assembly.
