I can't find ammo for a Savage 250 any longer. I did find some with 150 grain bullets but that shot terribly.

Does anyone have suggestions for a good bullet, powder combination for the Savage 250. The gun seems to like 100 grain bullets but I think the gun was intended to shoot 87 grain bullets.

I intend to use the gun for hunting so one hole ragged groups are not that important but I would like to keep it under 2 inches at 100 yards.

Thanks!
Eric

Is this an old 99 or a bolt gun? In any case a 87 grain sierra shoots half in groups in my bolt gun with 36 grains imr 4064. My 99 hates anything over 75 grains but my brothers loves 87s with H380 and Ramshot hunter not sure what his powder charges are though.

It's a 99, 1946, Lever Action rifle. Your 99 does not like anything over 75 grains. I wonder if that will limit my hunting power. I suspect not. What is your load for 75 grains for your 99 Lever Action?

Thanks!

I believe I'm running 36 grains of reloader 17 and the 75 grain vmax. I'm sure you can get the 85s to shoot well in yours like I said my brothers model 99 shoots them well.

I believe that rifle will have a 1 in 14 twist. FWIW I would try only short bullets in the weight range you want to shoot. If 100 gr. you probably need a round nose.
