Hi Gang,

Thinking of doing a second barrel in 7mm-08 instead of .308 for my BTCSS. I am just a Group-Hound so not so concerned with game-killin' abilities as much as Bug-Hole eating...

I hear some nice things about this round and I could convert 500 rnds of nice 308 brass into the 7mm-08 without too much grief.

What are peoples thoughts on this idea? I am a little concerned about recoil wit a bad rotator-cuff in my gun-shoulder.

The 7mm-08 does have less recoil than the 308 but it might not be enough to help your shoulder

If it's bug holes you want why not go with a 6BR?

I shot a 30" 7mm-08 on my target gun. I'm selling it now because it got boring.

7mm-08, 260, 243 all have good accuracy and moderate recoil. Big barrels like the one that Mattri has for sale reduces the recoil even more.

Like stangfish said, any of the .308 based cartridges will give less recoil, especially if you put in a heavy stock (choate). I like all three 7-08, .260, .243 and you can use your brass. All three outperform the parent cartridge ballisticly as well.

FWIW as you mentioned accuracy I'll assume that you're building a benchrest or varmint style rifle, one that isn't a light mountain gun with a 22" sporter barrel etc. I built 2 7mm-08s, one for hunting and one for punching paper. The target rifle had very, very little recoil. My 15 and 16 year old nieces, neither of which break 100lbs would shoot it all the time.

For recoil reduction, try 120- 140gr bullets.
I use 150 gr in mine over 35 gr TAC. Very accurate and mild recoil.
Kills Whitetails very nicely.
