Anyone use this barrel yet? My son wanted a lighter barrel than my varmit so i ordered him a light varmit for his 7mm-08.It is a Criterion 24" prefit.i have a 26" prefit varmit on my old 300 win mag and it shoots great.

Have heard any complain about a criterion barrel..... unless they were still waiting for it!

I just put one on a long action in 6.5-284 and dropped it in a Boyds thumbhole. Has a vortex viper 6.5-20 in warne rings sitting on top. Weighs in at 8 pounds according to the bathroom scale and shoots half inch groups at 200 yards.

Did you have to get a varmit stock or just the regular thumbhole stock?

The one I had was a sporter contour so I had to open it up a little but not a whole lot. The varmint contour would probably work out better.

My 223AI is a 22" Criterion light varmint...LOVE the contour. Love it. A 26" Criterion LV is a full pound lighter than a Varmint contour of the same length.

Its worth noting the 20" McGowen "varmint contour" barrel I have from Gunshack is almost identical to the Criterion LV.

Stomp was the barrel on your 6.5 x 284 a 26" or 24"?

Just put on a 24" CBI light varmint 6.5x284 on a savage long range hunter that wouldn't shoot very well now shooting 3/8" @100 and under 2" at 500yds. In the long range hunter stock and with a Burris c4 4.5x14 on it the rifle weighs 10 lbs. 6oz on a postal scale. A little heavy for a hunting rifle but man does it shoot
