I have a Savage 10 P-SR (18" threaded bbl) on the way and am trying to see what ammo you guys have had luck with for precision shooting. I'll be shooting paper at 600 yards or less, mostly 200 or less. I'm wondering what factory ammo you guys with similar rifles have seen the best precision with. Feel free to answer in bullet weights and whatnot or with specific brands and models of ammo.

Do I need match grade ammo to get this rifle to shoot sub-moa out of the box?

Shot a .442" 5 shot grouping @ 100yds with this stuff. Good test bed factory ammo for the price! Many have had good luck with it too surprisingly!

I second that choice. Have used the FGGM 168's and this Atomic. No difference in accuracy from my 10 FCP HS. Last Monday, while testing the new Boyd's stock on my Edge/Axis (also .308) I ran some of this in it. 5 shot group of .833 @ 100 yards out of the Axis and new stock. Over 200 yards (300+), the FGGM 178's stuff seems better in the FCP.

But no where near the home rolled 168 Nosler CC over 8208 xbr in the FCP. I was verifying an OCW batch and confirmed what it likes. .283 three shot group first round and .243 second confirmation round. I think I found the sweet spot of the FCP and that 168/xbr load.

Only .308 ammo I've ever shot in my .308 is, home rolled 155gr Sierra MatchKings over IMR4895 or 175gr Sierra MK over Power Pro 2000-MR. Mines never seen factory ammo. Both those have given me less than .300" center to center groups at 100yds. 5 shots groups covered by dimes.

If I had to go with a factory ammo, I'd probably go with the Federal 175gr SMK bullet. You'll want that 175gr with any type of good wind.

168s really do everything you need out to 600yds
