I just shot a 270 WIN model 110E from the bench (no rest) and got a 2" group with Federal 130 Power Shok. Without a rest, that may not be terrible but it's obviously not great either. I noticed the barrel doesn't look bright and smooth. It's dark and with some chipping/pitting in the bore.

This is an old barrel with sights on it.

Can I expect to get any decent accuracy with a barrel with pitting?

In my mind it is impossible to judge performance of a rifle if you are shooting offhand. You might be a great shooter with almost superhuman ability or not worth a crap. :) To test a barrel, shoot off a rest and if it shoots about 1moa then you know it shoots about 1moa. :). You can decide what is acceptable for your hunting situation. Rust pitti g or no rust pitting is not the question to be concerned about. Does that make sense?

You didn't say how far you were shooting, but if your getting 2" groups offhand, I'd say see what your doing from a bench. Pitting means about as much as tool marks and tool marks mean nothing. You have to shoot the darn thing.
