I picked up one of the other 243 110s, with the LA, planning on using it as a 243. I still might, as you'll see below. But if I decide to rebarrel for 6.5x55, I'd like any and all advice, regarding barrels, suppliers, smiths, etc.

My plan is to first shoot this as a 243. If it is inherently accurate, then I have a tough choice. I stumbled into a Remington BDL 243. Older model with the curved butt. If that shoots as expected, then the Savage could make a great 6.5x55 host.

I was told to check the mag box of the Savage to ensure fit. I know that some 6/5 rounds are best seated out a bit to meet the chamber, etc. so a 30-06 length box is ideal. Like a moron, I sold off my 6.5x55 ammo a long time ago. I had at least 10 boxes of the Remington. Oh well...move on right. So once I commit to the project, I will find a box of 6.5 and see how they fit. heck, I could probably just try tom 06' that I have.

So, what else? I'm trying to keep this simple and introduce myself to the round. thanks

If the 6.5 Swede rounds will feed through the current mag box, you'll be good to go. Any of the good barrel makers could do a 6.5 Swede barrel but the big ? is waiting time for the barrel. I would contact Sinman on the forums and see what his lead time would be for a barrel.

Thanks. For hahas, I tried a 30-06 cartridge, but it's a tad large. Internet research say 30-06 is 3.33 vs 6.5x55 3.15, dependent upon bullet grain, seating, etc. I'll mic the cartridge I have an see. I'll have to find a 6.5x55 cartridge somewhere to confirm though.

Not is much of a hurry, so timing isn't a big issue for me.
