Bedded Action Screw Torque?

For those who have bedded their actions, and use a torque driver on their
action screws, how many inch pounds do you use?

I have read many, various torques used on different sites, but came to
this one to ask. After all this IS the Savage forum!

My rifles are VLP's with center feed which has been bedded, if that's
any help. Thanks! :)

I've seen recommendations all over the board on this site. I use 25 in lbs with my bedded stocks and have never had an action screw loosen up. I also add pillars to my wood stocks so I am not compressing the wood with the action screws. My experience is that once you are hand tight on a pillar/bedded action, you won't gain much, if anything by turning up the torque. As stated below, consistency is the goal.

About 25 is what I use on all my bedded stocks and have never had a screw come lose from recoil.

Is that hand tight with a screwdriver?

If you are still coming down on metal pillars the toque would still be about 60-65 inch pounds, if not it should be no more than 50 just like a wood stock.

consistent is the most important. you could experiment some with different pressures, could make some difference.

I use 30 inch pounds on my bedded A-5 stock. That what McMillan uses - I called them.
