only reason I can think of is because you cant get a 140 grain bullet for a 25-06.

I enjoy my 6.5-06 I can hunt varmints to big game, with it. I use 120Gr. Ballistic tips for white tails, they just drop not having to track them is nice.

Kinda off-subject.....but....
Back many years ago when I was doing IHMSA, the 7mm TCU was super popular. Being somewhat of a rebel, I went with the 6.5 mm TCU. My reasoning was simple, the 6.5 mm bullets are more efficient than 7 mm, given the same weight. Only problem I ran into (back in the stone age), was the limited selection of 6.5 mm bullets. That's all changed now. I still have the 14" 6.5 mm bbl on my T/C. It now wears a scope and it's fun to shoot. I rang a Ram with it (using 120 gr bullets) so I 'upgraded' to an 7mm BR XP-100 rechambered to 7mm-08. Back then, Rem made the pistol but not the ammo OR the brass. Truing to make 7 mm BR ammo is an expensive proposition, but the brass is available now. Probably responsible for my wrist damage. ouch.
Don't see many TCUs now days. I also have some of the more 'unusual' T/C bbls. ha ha

I like all of the 6.5s, there are so many duplicate performing cartridges out there that it doesn't really matter anymore. I have been working on my 6.5 Sin for a little while now, that is in a completely different category of 6.5 though. I saw have as many 6.5s as possible it will just create more demand for awesome bullets.

What is the 6.5 sin??????

I have an XP100 and a TC 14" in 7TC/U, and am contemplating both an AR based TCU, and a bolt rifle in the same chambering.

I've also got a ton of '06 LC Match brass that is begging to be used, and I just might have to build a 6.5-06 for some long range fun. I've got a 110 in 7mag that's dying to become my next build, so we will have to see what pops up in the near future barrel wise. Why /06.5? Because I can!

"What is the new interest in a 6.5-06 ?"

Last I checked I had barrels for the

6.5 TCU
6.5 x 222 Remington Magnum
6.5 PPC
6.5 Rem BR
6.5 / 250
260 Rem
6.5 x 257 Roberts Ackley Improved
6.5 x 55 Swede
6.5 x 284
6.5 - 06
6.5 - 06 Mashburn
6.5 Rem Mag
264 Win Mag
6.5 x 300 Weatherby
6.5 RUM
6.5 x 378 Weatherby

Cannot remember the purpose of the standard 6.5 - 06.

But it has a 8-inch twist, 30-inch long barrel, matte-finish, and is threaded for a left-hand Sako.

A 6.5 X 378 Weatherby, are you kidding me, I think I just felt my loins tingle.

.

The 378 Weatherby easily necks up and down to nearly anything.

I have one necked-up to 0.550 caliber.

It is good for testing the density of stuff.

And reloading for it is simple as it is not sensitive to small powder charge variations like some cartridges are.

Pressures are fine with small charcoal briquettes.

Hammer,
This may be a little off subject but while thumbing through this post I see that you have a 6.5 .257 Roberts AI....Which is my next planned build... I have .260s and a 6.5-06 also and even a .257 Roberts AI all of these have persuaded me that the 6.5 257 Bob AI should be a nice compromise between the .260 and the 6.5-06....If you have any data that you might share it would certainly be appreciated....Dies and a reamer on order....
Thanks,
Randy

The 6.5-257 Imp was/is known as the "260 AAR".

I have been advised that it's best if I don't offer my favored loads since my loads come with a large mallet as standard equipment to open the bolt.

I have a very good friend who is now confined to a bed in a nursing home. Anyway about 30 years ago we were shooting
at a buck accross a branch of the sesquehanna river in n c pa. i think on the third shot the bolt locked up due to
his hot load. He picked up a small rock and commenced pounding on the bolt handle in an attempt to open it. First thing you
know the handle flew off with a piece of the bolt body still attached. We didnt get the buck and he drove home with a live round
in the chamber. He was a first class machinist/gunsmith who should have known better. He cut that bolt off and made a new section
of bolt and handle from one peice of steel. He then welded it together and you would never have known it was done. That made an impression
on me i never forgot. The lockup part, not the repair part. I decided that a few more clicks are better than a few feet per second.

It is not for everyone that is for sure, and to tell you the truth I wish I could go back life was much simpler, but since I am week I probably will not.
