I'm trying to find a mag bolt face bolt head for my model 10 to convert to a 7saum. I figured pt&g would be the place to go, but they only offer a long action mag bolt head.
Can I use it?
Other than having thicker lugs whats the difference?
Or does anyone know of another source? If I knew the part number I'd get my smith to order direct from savage...

You can usually get them from Midway and Brownells. You can make a long action magnum bolt head work but not without some modification. The stem on the long action head is longer than the one for the short action so you will have to cut some of it off.

Yeah, I just saw that midway sells a short action mag face bolt head from pt&g, so they do exist. Ptg only list mag face as an option on long action on their site so I guess I'll have to call them.

If PT&G doesn't work out just go ahead and modify the long action bolt head. Have done that and it is not difficult or costly. Took my gunsmith less than 5 minutes to trim it down.

If its just a matter of shortening the stem I may go that route. Thanks.
