Big thanks to all who helped get the new rifle sorted out. It was my first build and I learned a lot. I still need to bed the action, but at this point the rifle is shooting far better than when I first assembled it.
For those who didn't follow my "problems with new rifle build" thread, here are the components:
Savage Target Repeater Action (from donor LRP I bought from Jim/Northland)
SS barrel nut and lug from Northland
260 Rem
McGowen SS Shilen LV7 profile barrel, 1:8 twist, 24", threaded, thread cap
Manners MCS-T5 (dead flat black) stock
Harris S-BRM 6-9" bipod
EGW 20MOA HD scope mount
Burris Extreme Tactical 30mm low rings
SWFA 12x42 mil-quad scope
SSS 9 rd mags
Southern Ordnance Tactical bolt handle
It took about a month of incremental fixes/improvements but at this point the hardware and load are 'good enough' for me to have confidence to start using the new rifle to shoot with the local long range field/match group (600-1000 yds).
The current load is 42.6gr RL-17, A-Max 140 @2.855", CCI #200 primer, Lapua 260 Rem brass.
The two 5 shot groups I chronoed this morning:
Group #1 (includes CBS): Avg=2887fps, ES=13.8, SD=6.1
Group #2: Avg=2865 fps, ES=21, SD=8.7
All shooting was done with a bipod, rear bag, wooden bench, and other shooters bouncing the bench. :o
Cold Bore Shot (CBS) on left, middle group is 4 rounds without changing scope dials (in order to see how CBS compares to warmer barrel).

My goal for the rifle is to consistently shoot 1/2-3/4 MOA. Our long range field match club normally uses 1 MOA and larger sized target with an occasional .6 and .8 MOA targets (6" and 8" plates at 1000yds). Here is the 5 shot group at 300 meters. Not great, but good enough for now.

I also shot my LRP 260 Rem to verify it is still reasonably zeroed. As can be seen by the previous target and this one I did not account for the slight cross wind at 300 meters.
