223/556 debate

Can I shoot 556 out of Axis 223? The 556 chambers fine even with a layer of duct tape on the bullet. I've been getting answers both ways on other forums so time to ask it here. What do you guys think and WHY?

The latter thread is in the correct section (Ammo and Reloading: Standard Cartridges) and is a locked sticky so we don't have to rehash the same arguments over and over.

You ask a reasonable question, and have no way of knowing it's history on this forum. I would ask that you carefully read the posts I referenced and then draw your own conclusions. I know you are new here, but I would also respectfully ask that you please do a search before asking questions that may have already been answered.

Gerard488: You are correct. I'm closing this thread and moving it to the Ammo and Reloading: Standard Cartridges section where it belongs. If the moderators there wish to reopen it, they will.
