223rem/204ruger in a short action would be the obvious choices to start the action with the least mods required.

You could even send that 204 barrel to sinman and get it rechambered and recrowned.

I used a model 11 223 to build my 20 TAC, but used a Shilen Select Match barrel for mine.

Know that Sinman and stevec (and Armed in Utah I think as well) took 204 barrels and built 20 TAC/20 Practical from them.

If you plan to use the Dakota/Lapua brass would suggest a .232 or .233 neck - anything smaller and you will need to neck turn the brass. This is a really nice round and will surprise you what a tack driver it is - went with a 12 twist, but a 11 is also nice. Mine shoots the 39gr SBK's and 40gr Nosler BT's into a pretty small hole.

by the way what would you think about a target action for this project?

Yikes!! $500!! The Shilen was from NSS, and was less than $300 to my door - 26in, Varmint contour, the wait seemed slow at first, but it was here as promised and wasn't that bad - gave me a chance to get the dies, brass, bullets, etc in.

Target action...that is what got me into a 20 TAC to begin with. A buddy from the range I shoot at, has a 20 Tac built on a Savage target action, 28in Pac-Nor, and one of SSS LRBT stocks in Indian Blanket - he polished the action and barrel to a high shine and it is one beautiful rifle. Best shooting I have ever done was one day he let me shoot a 5shot group. Yeah, if I could I would have one - I just like the RBLP action...

but then mine shoots pretty good for mod. 11, with a plastic varmint stock.

target will work if you want it but you don't need one if you don't want to. mine is on a standard 11f action. shoots under 1/4" too.

If you plan to upgrade the stock, I would go with a standard staggered or center feed action. Not many after market choices for the accu-stock models yet. Target models either for that matter. Lots for the SF models thou.. Jim at northland had both actions last time I looked. Bill

Not really off topic, if you go with something other than the target action might want to include one of the after-market triggers. On my 11 that is the one mod I have not done and really would like to do.

Sinman, do you still have the factory trigger on your 11f?
