300 Sav deer loads

Looking to try loading up some 300 Sav for my model 99.
Since Its for whitetail I was thinking 150gr or maybe a little lighter. I see Hornady has a 150gr bullet they list specifically for the 300 Sav, not sure why, Shorter bullet perhaps due to the short neck of the 300 case????
Anyway if Anybody has any pet loads for the 300 Sav particularly for the model 99 I'm all ears.

I have been playing a little bit with the Hornady 130gr bullets but not having a lot of luck finding good load. The best combo so far has been 150gr Rem Core Lokts with H4895 powder.

The rifle is a 20in bolt gun.

Thanks for the reply JC. I'm going to try the SST's and maybe some 150gr Barnes TTSX since I already have some from my .308.
Look forward to trying it, love shooting these old model 99's

With solid coppers like TTSX, you don't have to "shoot heavy" for the caliber, the lighter bullets work very well. You just have to keep the speed up a bit

Only thing is Barnes doesn't have any data on the 300 Sav. Can a person use data from conventional jacketed bullets of the same weight? Say 130 grain info from Hodgdons online reloading data?

No. Monolithic and cup-and-core aren't interchangeable. I'd write a Barnes and ask them for a load recommendation.

You'd think since the .300Sav is only a few grains lees case capacity than .308, there'd be an equation to work the numbers on a spreadsheet. My gut says 30-30 data will be close, but I have nothing but beer and Chinese food to back that up.

Ammoguide.com has one load for the combo on their site, but I don't have a subscription.

As a rule of thumb, starting data for a .308 Win is about the same as top end loads for the .300 Savage. I would start there if I couldn't get a response from Barnes.

I have a subscription to AmmoGuide they list over 40 150 grain loads with various bullet makers, watch the site as every so ofter they have a FREE entry to the site with limited access.
The site has an e-mail sign up for info on the site.

I got a reply from Barnes and they suggest using data from there X bullets which is in the link I posted above.

Also got a box of Hornady SST's to try out as well....:)
