Hey guys,

I was just wonderin where i could find a replacement barrel to change my Savage 111 from 7mm Rem Mag to .270 Win. Also, is there anything else I need to switch calibers? Will this work on a magazine fed rifle?

Thanks

Barrels are available in our classifieds here pretty frequently at a very good price. You will need a .473" bolt head and the magazine may need a bit of tweaking to feed reliably.

As a basice user you cannot access the classifieds. You have to be a paid member($12/yr), but you'll save that in the long run cause you could get a new takeoff barrel for $60 or so, and a good used one for less.

May also wanna pm Sinman. He has some used barrels for sale, and may have a .270.

You will definately need a new 473 bolthead, and probably a new magbox and follower too.

I have a 22" sporter take-off barrel I would sell for a song. I know nothing about it but it is off of a LH savage made in the mid to late 90's.

Since you seem to be new in the barrel swap game and this might be your one and only barrel change for a while, I would recommend you talk to Sharp Shooter Supply and send them your rifle. He (Fred) can make you a new Douglas 270 barrel to your twist and length and swap the your bolthead. SSS is as cheap on their gunsmith work as anyone I know of and they are first rate in quality. Don't expect it to be a week job. They have a waiting list. Worth the wait in my opinion. If you plan to become a routine barrel swapper then go ahead and buy the tools, start asking questions, and do the job yourself with a factory-take off or a new custom pre-fit tube. Luck in your choice, tiny

Yes, but you'll also need the ejector, ejector spring , ejector pin, extractor, extractor ball, and extractor spring.

even if i got the rest of the bolt already?

I just checked Midway and their site said those parts work for all calibers....

Yes, Midway only sells the bolt heads stripped. SSS sells them complete and assembled but for a bit more $$$.

You could strip all of those parts off your old bolt head if you wanted. But, it's not that much more to get all the parts and have two complete bolt heads.
