I don't know how to determine a short action vs a long action. I have a Remington 700 in 30-06, BDL, non-magnum. Is that a long action or short action? What is the determining factor.

30/06 is a long action. If you go to Stocky's web site in the instruction pages where and how to measure for you stock there is a chart that will give you almost all of them.
