May 3rd the location is the same, but there has been some changes to how the shoot will be set up and ran.

here is what i posted at www.sportsmanschallenge.weebly.com for the shoot

"This coming Sportsman’s Challenge shoot will change a little from the past shoots in the way of shooting points being spaced apart where groups will travel from point to point to complete the competition. There will be 4 points consisting of 3-4 targets per station. Targets will be placed at random distance from 450- 1000 yards like usual, but there will be a station marker at each shooting point that you will have to engage your targets within 5’ either side of that, making you have to take shots in other than perfect conditions. Another change will be instead of having a guy sitting there to spot and score everyone the group will be responsible for scoring timing and spotting, these duties can be switched around between group members so a participant can get gear ready if next or how ever the group wants to work it. This will free up the shoot staff so they can move around the courses and make sure things are going well, meet the shooters as well as step back and see how things are working over all.

Small game will stay the same with 2 points to shoot from so there are not so many shots taken in one long string. These targets usually range from 150-600 yards and are sometimes set in scenarios where a predator is stalking its prey or rock chucks are grouped up making for life like hunting situations.

There will still be shade tents throughout the course so you can get a break from the direct sun and get a drink. As groups finish with scores tallied up on the score card, they will be turned in and recorded on the dry erase board for all to see. Times will most likely be like in the past where you show up at 7-7:30 get registration completed, do a safety brief and then we will try to start the shoot at 8 a.m. with groups already at their stations. Firing orders are up to the group individuals for the start and then will rotate at each point."

The 2014 Sportsman’s Challenge shoot will be held on May the 3rd at Miller Ranch in Sprague, WA, about an hour west of Spokane. You can check out lodging at the shoot on the Miller Ranch website www.millerranch.com there may be a lodge available the weekend of the shoot other than the Bird House (larger lodge), but you will have to move fast to reserve it for Friday night due to turkey season business. There is room for tents, RV’s, trailers or if you want to crash in your rig that is fine and has been done before.

The day of the shoot we will start registration about 7 a.m., we will then hold a safety brief and begin the shoot around 8 a.m. There will be no set lunch time, but Last year we had hotdogs, chips and water available around mid day and was included with your entry fee, if you don’t care for that lunch bring drinks and whatever food you would like or need for the day.

The amount of ammo needed for the shoot will be posted closer to the date of the shoot after the course has been set and finalized. I will be sending out electronic copies of registration and insurance waivers to help speed up the processing the morning of the shoot.

This should be a fun shoot as we have not yet had a shoot where you have to move from point to point in groups or had groups as involved as this time, so I hope you come ready to shoot and work with other folks to make this a smooth shoot.
