As stated above, I have accuired a 308 barrel. Can my gunsmith take the 22-250 barrel off my VLP and put the 308 varmit heavy barrel on without any mod's? It looks like the 308 barrel came off a VLP, stainless, heavy, fluted!

Yup it will work, as long as they are both standard shank.

I don't need another 308, but I will take it over my 22-250. I have never got my 22-250 to shoot like my other guns!

My 223, expecially my 243, and my 308's all drive nails!

Probably will shoot 110's out of it. It's the barrel that came off my donor gun for my 6.5x47L. Should have that barrel in a couple more weeks. CAN'T WAIT!

IMO its a step backwards.

22/250 is an easy round to tune, all the ones I had did exceptionally well with 52 gr SMK's on top of H4895. (Jump the heck out of it.) Some people like 50 gr vmax on top of H380 , most people don't have good luck with 55's, they do super exceptionally well in my 22br.

I have one Savage 16 that I can interchange three 22" stainless barrels; a 22/250, a 243, and a 308. This morning I swapped out the 22" 243 for a newly acquired heavy varmint weight, fluted 24" 243. Next I'm going to build a case to carry the rifle and the spare barrels just for show. I'm not sure this exercise in obsessive compulsive behavior has any practical purpose, but Montana winters are long and it keeps me out of the pool hall.

82boy, I shoot the same load in my 22-250. I have a Ruger M77 and it likes to shoot those 52gr SMK's as fast as it can. I have no idea what speed I am shooting but I do know that with another .5 gr's for 4895 I will shred the bullet in the air. So I backed it off .5gr and left it. No signs of over pressure and the bolt lifts just fine after a shot. And that's where that Ruger likes to shoot. Ragged hole at 100 is pretty standard for it.

I found that load does well on the hot side of things.

Hey Dennis if you need some help let me know. I have the tools to switch the barrels out. If the 22-250 barrel was put on at the factory it will be very stubborn to get off. To answer your question yes it will work. I use to swap 6br, 22-250, and 308 barrels on the same action without and mods.

With all the above comments, looks like I will get some 52gr SMK's and see what happens.
