View Full Version : Question about 25-06 Brass
I am venturing into new territory
I have a 25-06 barrel coming and have not been able to locate any brass at this point
Was wondering if it was possible/feasible to neck down 30-06 brass
Thanks in advance

It can be done, but I would look for some .270 brass if you want to neck down since it is closer to the same neck diameter. 30-06 will work to, I just prefer to make a smaller jump in size when necking down.

Yep. You may want to neck them down in two or three steps depending on the brass and of course check the finished neck diameter with a bullet seated for the chamber your using them in.
Other than that.....resize away!

I do this all the time with lots of different brass......But just to reiterate what Bill said because it's IMPORTANT....check the neck diameter when you're finished.
Thanks for the replies everyone
I will try a few and see how it goes

Hey JW if you are using 30-06 brass, and are going all the way down to 25-06, if you have some 270 dies and did it in two steps, it would be a lot easier and they would come out nicer.

I have a PILE of it from that source.
I don't monkey around with "steps", just use a quality lube(I like Lee) and do the inside and out of the neck as well. Then trim and away you go.
The neck thickness has always been a potential issue, but one that I have never personally had. I have even sized 338WM down to 264WM in one step without an issue.
YMMV

Lube, size, and shoot. No problem.
Thanks for all the help
I have found some 25-06 brass, thanks to a generous forum member here!
I will still try necking some 30-06 down just to see how it goes
