looking for economical barrel 243 or larger preferably 270 , heavy barrel but am told its one in a million mine is 223 long action i believe 5 inches between bolts? anyway comments advice and opinions greatly appreciated

Unless it's REALLY old, a current model barrel will work just fine. There is no difference between long action and short action barrel threads.

You realize that you have to swap the bolt head, the mag follower and will probably have to have the magazine well machined out to accommodate the longer and larger round, right? And I wouldn't call it "one in a million" more like one of a couple thousand. All the Savage centerfires from the late 80s and early 90s period are built on long actions. I have one myself in .243.

yes i realize its not just a change the barrel type deal , but glad for the info on the barrels , also my mag well is a lot bigger than the 223 needs the magazine itself is blocked down for the .223 cartridge
