Hello,

I am looking for a little help/advice with this wonderful little rifle.

I have figured out what model it is, as for S/N and age.. I gather the number will be under the scope mount.
It shoots really well, and I am afraid to remove the scope mount

Pictures of the rifle,

Thanks for reading and any advice given

Looks as if that old girl has been re barreled with a WW-2 military barrel off of either an Grand or Springfield possibly

Thats in impression I have gotten too, something like a 1903 barrel..

I wish the S/N was in a different spot so I could tell the age of it...

The barrel and front sight is a M-1903 barrel by Remington in Jan. 1944

So I removed the scope mount.

It is a Savage 340C. But there is no S/N..
Is there anyother place that could be and what is the year range for the 340C ?

That's kind of cool re barreled with an 1903 barrel. How does it shoot?

Duh I should have read 1rst post better.

The M1 carbine stock pouch fit on these & the 340 mags fit perfect in them.

Savage did no put Serial Numbers on rifles until 1968 when it became mandatory.

Well that's just flat-out wrong! Every Model 99 ever made has a serial number, same with every Model 110 - including all the ones made before 1968. 1968 is just the year that the federal government made it mandatory, most all manufacturers put serial numbers on most of their premium guns voluntarily prior to that. Typically it was the store brand and/or lower end utilitarian models that didn't get voluntary serial numbers.

Impossible to tell without the factory barrel as that's where the assembly date stamp would have been.

On my 340c the s.n# is on the right side , in front of where you would load the bullets...

Jim, I've seen date codes stamped on the receivers as well as barrels. Mostly shotguns and model 170's and such but a few 99's had them on the receivers as well.
