New guy here and I'm looking for advice on a .308 build. I've purchased a Stevens 200 in .308 and a Boyd's thumbhole stock so far. I also ordered a rifle basixs sav-2 trigger. Im looking for a part number on a replacement trigger guard that fits the Boyd's stock, I've seen it on here before but can't find it save my life. I would also like recommendations on barrels and glass. In currently looking at the vortex viper 6.5-20x50.

If you plan on going after another barrel in 308 consider buying a takeoff in a heavier barrel. You would need to get a stock with a larger barrel channel or modify the one you purchase. You can always put it back in its original configuration for stalk hunting. The Vortex is fine. They have better glass in the higher end models. Consider coating your action and barrel so it matches in your new stock. good luck.

I ordered the 105417 trigger guard from brownnels hope it's the right one. Sav-2 trigger should be here Monday. Just need mounts and rings for the viper. What height rings should I go with and any suggestions on a 1piece base?

I just got that same scope, the vortex viper HS 6.5-20x50. Dang good scope. We got the vortex 30mm rings, the one with 6 screws in the high mount. Its on a savage 260 with McGowen heavy barrel. There is about a 1/4" inch clearance on front bell. Medium height might work if you stay with the sporter barrel.
BTW, the viper line is good, but I have heard lots of mixed reviews on the crossfire.
thanks

Thanks a lot that's what I needed to know. I'll probably go with the high mounts because I plan on upgrading to a heavier barrel. What base did you use?

I don't think he mentioned the HS. The HS would be the better buy however. You will almost never need high mounts unless you run a large objective with a chasis system.

Here you can see with a large tube you need the hight.

Probably right, I used the Vortex Tactical High 30 mm rings Part# TRH. Really might have gotten by with the medium mount.

Ok got the trigger installed and now I need a 1 piece base to mount my scope. Looking at a weaver 20 moa 1piece but don't know if it will fit. All the 1 piece mounts I find are round rear only and my receiver is round front and rear. Any help would be appreciated.

All the fronts are round. "Round Back" or "Round Rear" distinguishes the rifle from older models where the rear was milled flat. Those are called "flat back" or something similar. Even the flat back receivers are round in front of the loading/ejection port.

The following rail mounts should fit your short action round back receiver:
Weaver 48338 MULTI SLOT 0 MOA SAVAGE short action rail
Weaver 99495 EXTENDED MULTI SLOT BASE 0 MOA SAVAGE short action rail
Weaver 99496 EXTENDED MULTI SLOT BASE 20MOA Savage short action rail
Weaver 48338 MULTI SLOT 0moa SAVAGE short action rail
EGW 41000 Savage Short Action Round Back 0 MOA rail
EGW 41002 Savage Short Action Round Back 20 MOA rail

One more question. If I go with the egw 0 moa do you think I can clear a 50mm scope with low rings being it sits up a little higher than the weavers. I'll be using Burris zee rings.

Should be fine I have the 20 MOA tail with a 42mm in ultralow rings and it still has quite a bit of clearance. I'd say at least a 1/4in.

Ordered the EGW 0 MOA and med Burris zee rings. Went with a oculus 3-9x50 scope for hunting season.

New base and rings came in. Had a problem with the 3-9x50 oculus scope turrets, so I took it back and swapped it for a 6-24x50 oculus seems decent for a budget scope. Hopefully get to take it to the range this weekend to try it out.

So what made you decide to be the Oculus Guinea Pig? Use some white fingernail polish and mark your zero on your Wand E turrets.

Well I had planed on going with the viper but my wife decided she wanted to take up bow hunting this year with me so my scope funds dwindled quickly after buying her a bow. The bass pro warranty helped me decided all I have to do is walk in and exchange for another. And the fact that it only cost me $153 helped out. We will see how I does holds up, like I said if it doesn't work out it will get exchanged and handed down for my sons first rifle.

The turrets actually have a set screw that let's you zero them back in after sighting it in.

Just a update on the scope. I finally got to get it out and sight it in. I ran a box and a half of cheap rem. 150gr core locks through it it and its held its zero fine. Took it to the woods last week and manger to pick a few hogs off our property.
