Hi what are the pros and cons of a, solid pilot chamber reamers and a, floating pilot chamber reamer.

Great question!
I'll bet there's lots of opinions out there. Or just send a question to PTG. They are some NICE people.
I recently purchased 2 of their reamers (solid pilot) and was amazed. They cut through bbl material "like a hot knife through....." You know the rest!

IMHO,

Piloted reamers will cut a MUCH more accurate chamber as long as the right bushing is used as well as the bore being lined up in the lathe properly and all the OTHER things that need to be done for an accurate chamber to be cut. Piloted reamers without the proper bushing isn't much different than a solid pilot reamer.

Solid pilot is cheaper........can cut a pretty decent to very good chamber as long as all the other stuff is done right too.

Pilot bushings can be changed to different sizes to allow for the slight difference in bore sizes. A solid bushing isn't going to be right all the time, perhaps too large for some bores and sloppy for others.

If you have the options go with the piolted, but both can do a fantastic job in the right hands and a horrible job in the wrong hands.
