Modifying OE tupperware for varmint profile barrel

So I searched around for a bit but didn't find anything regarding this. I previously upgraded my 10FXCP3 package in .308 from wallyworld with the sportser barrel to a barely used 26" varmint profile barrel from a 10FV and a Choate Ultimate Varmint stock with new stainless lug and nut (from SSS) and a new extended bolt handle too. Well that made the weapon weigh in SUPER heavy, and suitable only for a bench rifle, which it was doing fine as until...I decided that I wanted to use it during rifle season in a couple of months.

I wanted to keep the varmint profile barrel as I really like the way the rifle shoots with it and my optic is already sighted in for it. I'm a career student (8th yr in post HS education) so my budget is always pretty tight, but decided to go looking at aftermarket stocks which would fit the varmint contour barrel. Checked boyds, stockys, etc but couldn't justify spending $250+ on a new stock. Then I realized I had the OE tupperware from the rifle in a closet still...

I know the common knowledge on this is probably NOT to do it...but a buddy and I took about 15 minutes and used a file and a box cutter to trim up the inside of the OE tupperware. The result is a free floated barrel, verified by sliding paper around the barrel and up to the action. I'm planning on just ordering a new box magazine, spring, and action screws from Savage to make it so I can switch between the stocks at any time without changing but the 2 action screws...

So the question is...should I have done this? Or did I make some horrible error of calculation in my plans?

I have opened one up by trimming just the fore end tip with a dremel and a file and then boiling it in water in a big pot that came with my turkey fryer. After letting it boil for a good 5 to 10 minutes it softened the synthetic up just enough to force a 1" broom handle ( Not glamorous but it's what I had available) into the fore end channel the length of the stock (to keep everything straight) and secure it while it cooled. Once cooled it stayed in the new shape.
It worked out well for me and fit the model 10 BA takeoff barrel and 110 action I had like it was made for it.

By the way, a 12" long piece of 1 inch galvanized steel pipe with sandpaper wrapped around it makes a great finish sander.

i took a 116 with accu stock and opened it up with a dremel and finished by hand with sand paper. I put a magnum contour in a sporter stock

After you complete the new barrel channel you can use the broom for sweeping. Nothing like dual use tools.
