I have found 2 Savage 116 rifles in 2 pawn shops. One in 270 winchester and one in 7mm mag. They both have the factory 23in fluted barrel with muzzle brake. They are both pre accu-trigger and pre accu-stock. I am trying to find out info on barrel twist rate so selecting bullets is a little simpler. The 270 will be for hunting but the 7mag for mid range target and hunting.

I have search google and emailed savage and have found nothing

The current twists for the 116's are 1-10" for the .270 and 1-9.5" for the 7RM.

IIRC these have been the standard twists Savage has used for quite some time on these calibers. I could be wrong. You could always confirm by doing the "measuring the cleaning rod" method.

Cool, thanks. Im getting back into long rifle shooting and I have often read about Savage accuracy so I decided to give it a try. I have already picked up the 270, the 7mm is on layaway.. got them both for $800 total

$800 for both, sounds like you got a steal if they are in great shape. Be sure to give us a range report when you get them up and running.

Just a tip. Don't over-clean factory Savage barrels. Most of them shoot better if the are dirty. Most of mine only get cleaned every 200 rounds or when accuracy starts to fall off (regardless of how long it takes me to shoot it that much), whichever comes first.

If I know the rifle won't get shot for a long time (like on a hunting season only rifle) then I'll clean it just to protect the bore, but I'll be sure to foul it with 15 to 20 shots when I recheck my scope zero before hunting the next season.
