I converted my Savage 11 Trophy Hunter in .308 to .260 using an EABCO barrel and Boyds Tacticool stock. Boyds does not yet support the bolt release on the trigger guard so I had some machining to do. I chucked a router bit into my drill press and deepened the channel for the trigger guard. Now the trigger guard sits deep enough so that the spring-loaded tab engages the bolt release lever that extends downward from the action. I built a blind magazine using parts from the Trophy Hunter magazine and a retainer bracket that I obtained from Savage. In the future I will add a detachable box magazine. The scope is a Vortex 5-15x44.

Good job Chromatica

Maxi, It might be a good Idea to start your own thread so we don't eat up theops space on your rifle

Sure would like to see a photo of that
retainer bracket .

Was that part number #106130, according to Stock's Stocks it allows mounting a centerfeed magazine into a blind magazine. All of $2 I have 4 coming for my blind stocks.

Sorry for the delay in my reply. Yes, the retainer is part number #106130. I had to remove the bottom plate of the box magazine that came with the Trophy Hunter. Once the magazine was disassembled, I inserted the metal box over the spring-loaded follower and placed the retainer on the rear facing edge of the box. Then I pressed this assembly into the cavity in the Boyd's stock. Finally I inserted a custom bolt (1/4-28) up through the trigger guard and the stock and through a hole in the retainer until the threads mated with the receiver. There is a savage action bolt available from Midway designed for wood stocks with a box magazine but even that bolt (1 1/4) is too short. I purchased a 1/4-28x2 bolt with hex head (black oxide) from the hardware store and ground it down to about 1 3/8. I made sure it did not interfere with the motion of the bolt lugs. I was able to re-use the OEM plastic trigger guard.

I should probably take all this apart again and take photos to make this clearer.

Hi Maxy,

If you start a new thread, send me a PM and I'll post a list of all the parts you need for your build.

You should be able to find that bolt in the heilman bolt section of a ace hardware.

Fastner suppliers like McMaster-Carr sell assorted length screws with the correct threads and the correct heads for a fair price with minimal shipping costs. The also come in at least a couple of different materials including stainless.

I have a couple of sets of action screws for wood stocks from Boyds. Now just waiting for the retainers from Savage.

It sounds like you have a center-feed magazine which is what I want to use, but on a staggered feed receiver.

Looks good, I want to get a tacticool for both rifles and carve out for the DBM since both mine are DBM.

Your scope rings seem to be really high. Here's a pic of my Savage with a 50mm objective scope lens using the lowest set of rings I could use. This still allows me to keep my cheek welded to.....well, the "cheek weld."

Looks good. Are you able to even put your cheek on the stock when you shoot it?

Got my retainer parts from Savage (#106130) and took apart one of my center-feed magazines.

Just not getting how the retainer holds the magazine box down. I am assuming the semicircle hole is used by the receiver screw. Just not sure where or how the retainer works.
