I have a savage model 11 short action. I just received my barrel, a shilen stainles match select. I threaded it onto the action just to see how it would look and something occured to me. When I actually get ready to bolt this into my stock, which will hopefully be here any day now, a stockade woodchuck, how do I keep from letting my action screws dig into the barrel threads? Do they make different length action screws? As a matter of fact, I don't have any action screws so where would I purchase some?

Action screws are just 1/4-28 socket cap bolts. You can get some at your local hardware store. Just carefully grind them down if needed. 2nd, the action screws will not contact the barrel threads. If the rear one is too long it will contact the bolt body, if the front one is too long it will stick up and bind or block the bolt head when it rotates and make for a stiff bolt or won't let it rotate.

Now the front scope base screws will contact the barrel threads if they are too long. This may ding up your threads, especially if the screw is touching the threads of the barrel and you screw in/out the barrel, and could also keep your scope base from tightening down properly.
