I want to load Retumbo powder for my 116 LRH to utilize the 26" bbl. Does anyone use this powder for their 140 gr. hand loads? Thanks for the help. MTG

Sorry, my computer is getting old and the keys do not always work. My inquiry was about loads using Retumbo powder in a 6.5X284. MTG

If you go to the Hodgdon reloading web site, and "walk" thru the right clicks, you will get to the rifle loads for your caliber. http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp I looked for your caliber using Retumbo as a powder and Hodgdon does not list any loads for the 6.5x284.

Retumbo is powder that is made for the "big boy" magnum calibers and not the "regular joe" one's. I'm sure someone somewhere has tried it, but if I don't see a published manufacturer load, I don't load it. FWIW

I use retumbo in my 6.5-284 shooting 140 vld bergers. Just over 3000 fps. The load is hot in my gun and it is not max load according to berger loading manual. I'm lighting the fire with magnum primers and jamming the bullets. Berger says start at 55.5=2704, max 58.5=2865. I'm at 57 and getting flat primers. At sea level it gets 3000 at 2200' my field data shows more like 3100 fps. 0 at 100 it takes me 6.9 mils to get to 1000.

Yes, how much depends on throat, case, primer and barrel. I started around 56-57g and wound up using a drop tube before reaching max. I stopped when had good groups at 3150 with Berger VLD.

53.5 grains is giving me 2965fps out of a 26" shaw barrel and half inch accuracy at 200 yards.

I have found that my 6.5x284 likes 56.5 grains of Retumbo and groups 1/2" @ 100 yards. It chronographed at 3020 average with very good accuracy. I zeroed this rifle at 300 yds. and it will hit the steel plate, at our range, dead middle each shot. Happy for now. Thanks for the input. MTG
