Hi all,

New guy here with a question for the experienced rifle owners out there (which is most of you I'm sure). I'm also new to rifles and just recently aquired a Savage Arms 10FCP HS.

My question is regarding the stiffness of the bolt action. It seems very stiff on the rifle and takes a bit of effort to move the bolt handle up and down when cycling the action. Are new Savage's typically like this? I don't really have anything to compare it to. Maybe the springs are just stiff on a new gun or maybe there is an issue with the bolt and it needs to be taken apart??? It just seems that while maintaining cheek weld it would be quite hard to manipulate the bolt without moving the rifle around. Should it be easy to cycle the action?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

PS
I don't know if this is related but the bolt was stuck in decocked position when I received the gun (it was shipped to me) which was very difficult to undo. I managed to muscle it back into cocked position so it could finally be inserted into the rifle.

Welcome to the site,
Savages have a heavy bolt lift, this is now one of the biggest complaint the new owners have. If you use the search feature you will find others that have had the same question as you.
Some threads that come up under the search.

I appreciate the links. At least now I know this is an inherent issue with these rifles. Sounds like I need to send it out to SSS for this TT job....
