So I took my brand new Savage .308 out to the range today. Had everything setup up and ready to go. I load some factory ammo in and get ready. Range is hot and I attempt a 75 yard target to get on paper. I pull the trigger and nothing happens. I hear the click but no shot. Ok, misfire. I eject the round and check the primer. Nothing. Hrmm. I then loaded up some handloads I made and tried that. Nothing. I wasted my time today and I want to find out of this savage is a POS or if it is operator error (more than likely). Any help would be appreciated before I have to go hunt down a smith.

Here is the bolt back

And forward ... As you can see plenty of firing pin to go around.

Are you sure you didn't hit the side of the trigger without depressing the accutrigger blade? If you do that it will trip the trigger but the blade will catch the sear before striking the firing pin.Try turning the weight of pull up on the trigger and try it again

Yeah I can simulate that situation by pulling sideways on the trigger.

I put a tiny piece of tape over the firing pin hole and charged it. Pulled straight up and took the bolt out. No indentation at all.
Looks like Ill be returning it to savage.

Sounds like you are not depressing the blade, before you pull the trigger

Dont look like the problem is with the bolt cause your firing pin is definately protruding. I know it has been said but it really does sound like the trigger isnt releasing the sear.

Try pulling the action out of the stock and dry-firing it a couple times to see if the sear is being released or just tripping like when you dont depress the blade all the way.
