I just got my 6mm BR complete build back from SSS, beautiful work. Now, why can't I get the bolt back in the rifle???? This is my first Savage.

Thanks,

Ken

Try pulling the trigger while pushing down the bolt release lever while sliding the bolt in.

Be sure that the safety in is the off position (fully forward).

My turn. Look at the baffle behind the bolt head and see if the side with the small ridge on it's outer edge is on the right side of the bolt looking forward. If not rotate it 180 degrees to get that ridge to the right. There is a small cut in the right side of the action that it passes through when putting the bolt into the action. That, combined with the previous answers is all that comes to mind.

if them fail, remove the rear screw.

Is the bolt cocked?

^^^^What he said. Make sure it's 'cocked' (the cocking button in line w the RH raceway).

when no one is reading over your shoulder, you do have to tell us which one it was!

;D ;D

Okay guys, I have know one looking over my shoulder, but I am sure that there have been more than a few chuckles, it's all good. I knew that it was not cocked and that I needed to get the "button-looking thing" rotated clockwise so that it would slide in the raceway on the right side on the action. This morning I called a friend that also shoots Savage and pointed out the hex on the rear of the bolt, loosened it, rotated "button-looking thing" and wow. Blueavenger, you are the winner.

Thanks guys, this long-distance shooting has become real facinating and I haven't even fired a shot yet with a rifle capable of a 1000yds. Looks to be alot of fun.
