My new toy:

243 Winchester (although that barrel will not even get shot before it gets replaced with a 6.5x47L). The trigger has already been replaced with the rifle basix and is VERY nice. Surprised how good it is. Rivals some of my rifle triggers. Figured the linkage would have made for a rough trigger.

Now I have to start all the mods.

Now I have to get even MORE barrels than I already have........only shorter. :o

A replacement stock.

A modified or replaced bolt handle.

I'm also FORCED into getting a Burris 3x12 pistol scope for it. ;)

Why did I EVER buy this?!?!?!?

LOL!!!!

Hey, I used to have one of those!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/MrFurious45833/Gun%20Stuff/Striker1.jpg

Mine also started out as a .243 but I found it to be obnoxious to shoot so I rebarreled it to .22-250.

Honest question you guys...what do you do with these? What is the attraction/ advantage over a rifle? Just for kicks?

Rat:

You know..........I really can't tell you other than I just wanted one. I think it should be easier to haul around when hunting but I don't know yet.

Jim:

Plans so far: 250AI, 221FB, 17FB, 6.5x47L, 6BR, maybe a couple others (if I can control myself )

Heavy stuff: Special .50 caliber wildcat based off the RCM case and something in the .338 and .375 calibers.

Well...that's fair enough I guess! Though I cannot imagine shooting a heavy projectile like a .338 or .375 out of something like that. It must be like riding a motorcycle with a bigblock in it!

They were basically designed to compete against the Remington XP-100. As for what they're good for, well....good question. For a handgun it weights a ton and thus really isn't something you're going to shoot off-hand like a much lighter hunting revolver or Encore. What I do see it being a great gun for (and a very fun one at that) is for prairie dogs or ground squirrels when shooting from a bench or table. Would also be good for bigger game if you're hunting from a blind or treestand where you'd have a rail or ledge to rest it on to steady your shot.

LOL!!! It would be a handful I'm sure!!!

358Hammer shoots stuff a LOT bigger than that out if them!

I could definitely see it being good for prairie dogs.

I used to have one in .308 and talk about a hand full! I can't imagine how brutal the .300WSM was.

I had the Striker when nobody wanted them so instead of being able to sell it I converted into a rifle.

Apache, I still have the padded holster if you are interested.

Good thing is you can just cut the barrels down.

It's a black fabric padded holster that has wide shoulder strap and a loop for your belt to pass through. The holster is positioned on your left rib. It is open at the bottom. I think was actually intended for large hunting revolvers but the Striker fits fairly well. I have never seen another like it. I picked it up at a gun show many years ago.

I can try to send you some pics if you are interested.

You will like the .221fb on the striker. Got a case trimmer on the way to make brass.

Don't forget about the 450 Bushmaster Apache. I have some great light lead loads and great full house loads.

Good score! I have one in 243 that's sitting here waiting to be altered in some way. I just need to decide what to do with it. I was thinking a 6.5 or 7mm of some variety. It needs to fill the gap between the 6BR and the 300 RUM and 338/375 Ruger.

As for the usefulness of the Striker, they make great hunting guns. I carry mine in a backpack while I'm hiking in to a spot. The short OAL makes them very easy to pack around. You have a gun that's just as effective and accurate as any rifle, it's just more portable.

I don't know of any rifle caliber that I wouldn't be willing to try out of a properly set up Striker. I have a 300 RUM Striker (originally one of Neal's creations) which is less than 7# and it's perfectly comfortable to shoot as long as you have a good muzzle brake. My 338/375 Ruger is 8# 2oz and any experienced hand gunner can shoot it. The factory 300 WSM was comfortable to shoot without the muzzle brake. I have a few videos of them on Youtube if you do a search for yorketransport.

My first new barrel is going to be the 6.5x47L.......after that, we'll just have to wait and see. Looking forward to hunting out of box stands with it this year. It will be perfect for moving around it tight quarters like that.

At least that's the plan. :p

If you can manage it I suggest a short 1X6 board to set a bipod on. It helps to steady it a lot.

My box stands all have shelves in them just for that type of purpose. Looking forward to see how well it works. Should be some very sturdy shooting.

I bought one in .308win. because I was limited to around 100 yards with my Super Blackhawk .44mag Hunter. Living in the high desert with miles and miles of sagebrush and ranges that would give a .50 cal. BMG shooting rifle something to worry about.
I love handgun hunting and the Striker gives me the reach I need. I will be hunting Elk again this year with it. The other.barrel I have for it started life.as a Stevens .243 rifle barrel. It was a take off that I bought off a.guy. I cut it down to 16.5" and have a.ball shooting long range with it. May use it for deer or antelope some day, but for now it's my long range coyote shooter. I have a bipod on it but I carry a monopod when I wander around with it. They are really a fun way to hunt and shoot. I had a Simmons handgun scope on it for awhile.but I now have.a.Nikon Monarch 3 4-16x42 side focus Mildot Rifle scope mounted on it. Unbelieveable accuracy at long range now. I plan on 1000 yard gong.shooting by the end of summer, we'll see if I can get the time to do it.
So there you have my reasons for shooting such a handgun. I am totally hooked on the Striker and am always looking for my next take off barrel so I can add another.caliber to the fun!
