New Savage

Im looking to build a hunting rifle for the mountains and the tundra and wanted a bit of insight. First off I'm getting a savage action, just depends on which one. I was looking at the Stevens 200 but had concerns about not having a Detachable Magazine. Is there any way to change it to a DBM once i change stocks?

Yep, as long as you get a new centerfeed Stevens. You'll need a stock made for the detach mag, new bottom metal and obviously a magazine.

Sharp Shooter Supply should be able to get you everything you need.

Why not just buy a detachable mag model Savage?

If you are hikeing in the mountains I would be concerned about weight. The plastic blind magazine (non accustock) stock is probably going to be the least weight option. Good hunting!
